Re: Calling All Fall 2011 Yale SOM Applicants [#permalink]
Can someone please throw some light on how to answer short questions at Yale.

Is it necessary to answer these 4 questions individually in the order provided or we can be flexible to have 600 words essay that can tackle the all questions in flow but in not necessarily specific order.

From the instruction on the website I cannot clearly make out.

Instruction on page 1. The Short Answers consist of four (4) questions to be answered in paragraphs of no more than 150 words each, or 600 words total.

Instruction on page 2. Please answer each of the four questions below with a short paragraph of no more than 150 words. This is an opportunity to distill your core ideas, values, goals and motivations into a set of snapshots that help tell us who you are, where you are headed, and why

1. What are your professional goals immediately after you receive your MBA?

2. What are your long-term career aspirations?

3. Why are you choosing to pursue an MBA and why now? (If you plan to use your MBA experience to make a significant change in the field or nature of your career, please tell us what you have done to prepare for this transition.)

4. What attracts you specifically to the Yale School of Management’s MBA program?

Admission members have said that you can do it either way as long as you answer all four questions. I personally did 4 separate blurbs, but they did say they will accept one essay too.

I'd vote sections. You run less of a risk of neglecting a single component if you do distinct sections

I know a few people have brought it up, but has anyone heard news on when people will be notified about merit scholarships? In the applicant center it says "at the time of admission notification". Can anyone confirm that this was the case?

There are 5 my year that I can think of, but I'm not sure how many applied/ got in / actually came. I imagine it is as competitive as the regular admissions process though.

No they will not send out the dings until the very end. You tortured them with your application that was not qualified for an admit, now they'll take revenge on you.

I'd be careful what you say. Even though you added that smiley, karma has a vicious bite.

Hmm, maybe this bschool application process is slowly getting to everyone.

Gaga, although I am a big fan of humor (both in school and workplace), I learned in the past that not everyone understands (or sometimes even appreciates) humor. Especially when people are nervous, etc, humor can be interpreted differently.

Let's not escalate this further, and focus on more important things....like the holiday sugar cookies they sell at Starbucks...

In fact, I need a study break. But it's really cold outside and I am not brave enough to make the Starbucks trip. I miss those Starbucks in midtown NYC that delivers coffee and stuff.

(Actually, it's time to go take my last exam and head back home for the holidays)
