Hello.
For some background: I am a first gen african american with a 2.9 undergrad GPA. I am aiming for 7-20 ranked schools but would like to have a score that would also give me some shot at m7 schools. My exam is two weeks away and the past couple of days I have been scoring 700-720 (48Q/40V) consistently in practice exams(gmat prep--free&pack 1.) I was wondering if I should invest time to boost my score to a 750 range(I have yet to study for Verbal) to make up for the low GPA or would that make no difference to adcoms since my score is similar to school averages and higher than what they expect from URMs?
Just from a test taking perspective, making big changes in the last two weeks is generally not a good idea. You should study, but you shouldn't make such a big deal about the 750 that you end up underperforming.

Hi anbesa,

You're ultimately asking Admissions questions, so if you know the specific Programs that you plan to apply to, then you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of them here:

In real general terms, the higher your GMAT score, the better. However, competitive Business Schools look for strong OVERALL applicants, so beyond having a competitive GMAT score, you need to have a strong OVERALL application and you need to properly 'market yourself' to each individual School that you plan to apply to. If the only aspect of your application that 'stands out' is a high GMAT score, then a slightly higher score likely won't do much for you (so your focus would need to shift to making other aspects of your application stronger).
