I'm new on the forum so I'm not sure how many (if any...) recent or current INSEAD MBA students might see this but, assuming there's a small handful, I was hoping I could get some honest answers about the less academic pursuits you did or didn't join in during your time there. Would primarily be interested the responses of people who were based at the Fontainebleau campus and did not have a significant other accompanying them.
1. Do you have to join all the nightlife and hardcore weekend trips out of the country to make friends and network successfully, or are there groups of people that prefer fun outdoorsy daytime events and laid-back evening activities to socialize? I'm pretty sure I'm at the point in my life where a day of exploring the forest or golfing followed by a wine tasting and dinner with friends sounds exciting enough for semi-regular weekend plans.
2. Is it weird to not drink a lot when you do go to a party? I enjoy a buzz now and then in good company, but I want to keep hangovers out of picture.
3. Have you (or any classmates) brought a quasi-high maintenance pet with you? I have a dog, and I love him very much as well as rely on him to keep me grounded during stressful times (like business school), so I would want to bring him with me if it's even remotely conceivable. He's fairly small, adorable, loves people and is perfectly fine staying inside unattended for hours at a time when necessary, but I would want to bring him with me to social events when they are at dog-accessible venues so long as it's not frowned upon.
Also, if my first questions seem weirdly specific, many of the student testimonials or personal blogs I've come across paint a picture where they and large groups of their classmates are either hitting bars every other night that continue with after parties in nearby student housing after 1AM, or flying out every weekend for events in Lisbon, Instanbul, Bankok, etc. even with a final exam that Monday. Anyway, I understand the "work hard, play hard" mentality can become a way of life for some people, but this seems excessive and likely beyond my financial means.
Note: These questions disregard the potential impact of COVID-19 on the social activities of future classes.
Thanks everyone, sorry for the long post!

I am actually not in the target group that you want to raise this question but still want to give some thoughts because my answer will be the same if I join FBL without my significant other. The only common thing we have is that I also bring my dog with me after months of consideration.
1+2) I don't take those blogs too serious because people often talk more about fun things than struggles on Internet and social media. I spent quite some time to talk to several INSEAD Alumni and I do believe INSEAD is diverse enough so that we can find people who also want to balance traveling, partying, and being alone.
3. I will bring my dog with me. It took me 6 months of preparation to get SG gov's approval for her entry. Although I can foresee that I have to less participate in those social events or less traveling, I am happy with that option. So, you are not alone

As a 20J grad, I guess I am well-qualified to answer them:
1) It is not at all mandatory or required. There are plenty of other means to hang out with your batchmates. There are various activities such as group treks, sports clubs which play at least once a week (rugby, soccer/football, badminton are some of the sports), board game nights, regular weekday group dinners either at home or in some restaurant (this option is there primarily in Singy only). Other than this there is a wine tasting group, movie group, public speaking club, and so on. In SIngy, people also do other activities in the city - hang out in one of the city's parks, visit the museum or some other touristy place, do a hawker market visit, etc. I'd say there are plenty of interest groups for almost anyone to find something suitable.
2) Not at all. I know folks who did not drink alcohol at all and still attended several parties and had a great time.
3) I know at least one person in Fonty brought his dog along. Don't know anyone in Singy.
