Re: The figure above is made up of 4 squares. If a straight line segment [#permalink]
Diagonal of square = s\sqrt{2}
we were asked to find Perimeter of the given Figure(Not the perimeter of squares).
Given,
2*s\sqrt{2}=8\sqrt{2}

After solving We get S=4.
perimeter of figure is 10 *s =10* 4 = 40.

The figure above is made up of 4 squares. If a straight line segment were to be drawn from A to B, it would have a length of 8√2 units. What is the perimeter of the entire figure in units?

A. 20

B. 32

C. 40

D. 64

E. 80

Line segment from A to B = 2 Diagonals (of Square) , ie Diagonal of Square A and Diagonal of Square B

Now, since the squares are of equall size , we have \(2a√2 = 8√2\)

Or, \(a = 4\)

For perimeter count the number of sides of the figure, there are 10 sides, so the Perimeter of the figure will be 40, Answer must be (C)
