Re: Took GMAT twice but second attempt screwed up IR [#permalink]

Hi all,

I retook GMAT today for the second time.
I scored a total of 720 on my first attempt (V41 Q48 AWA5 IR7). For my second attempt I got higher scores on both verbal and quant compared to my first attempt but I screwed up IR and got only 5. Do you think the low score on IR will impact admission? Presumably I can provide both score reports and adcom will see I have the ability to do well on IR, right? In this sense, should I be worried or not?

Thanks!

Don't know why you are thinking that IR 5 is a bad score. Though IR weighs less, but by no means IR 5 is a bad score. You should move ahead with your best scores for admissions. You are good enough for top tier colleges.

Hi
Congrats on scoring higher on the Gmat in the second attempt. It means you have a score of more than 720, which is very good.
As others have pointed out, IR score is 5 is good and there is nothing to be worried about.

I'm not an admissions expert, but I would be surprised if the 'low' IR score affected you at all. (5 isn't even that low, by the way - it's better than the median score!). Your assumption (that you can provide both score reports) is correct as well. Unless you cancel a score, they'll be able to see all of your score reports.

Hello michen415,

Congratulations on your improved score :-) While a low IR can often be a problem, an IR of 5 is not an issue at all, so you needn't worry at all!

All the best!
