A certain cube is divided into n smaller cubes. What is the perimeter [#permalink]
Hi!
Do we need information about the side?
If the cube is divided in exactly 27 smaller cubes. Don't we automatically know the lenght of each of these cubes?

Let's suppose these are the properties of the bigger cube:
L = 3x
Volume = 27*x^3

Therefore. If we divide this cube in 27 smaller cubes. Each of them should have L = x in order to have a total volumen of 27*x^3
And finally the perimeter of this smaller cube would be 4x

What are the flaws behind my reasoning?

(1) n = 27
Nothing about side

(2) The volume of one of the smaller cubes is 64 cubic inches.
volume = side^3=64=4*4*4, so side = 4......
Therefore, perimeter of one side = 2(4+4)=2*8=16
