Re: Calling all Darden Fall 2011 Applicants! [#permalink]
After not getting a scholarship offer to Darden but getting $$$ offers from both Duke and Ross, I decided I would try to negotiate with Darden...

It fell flat...I was informed this morning that all scholarship decision are final...

I'm pretty bummed about it but I believe that I will be way happier, more prepared for my career and life, family will be happier, better network, etc at Darden than Ross or Duke. I just don't see how I can take the money and miss out on the Darden experience.

I love you Darden! *sentimental teardrop*

Sorry to hear that. When I tried to negotiating w/other scholarships, I encountered something along the lines of "an admissions offer is our strongest indicator that we love you". I suppose that's their way of saying "be happy we let you in, buddy". :)

Darden Waitlisters,

Did you guys receive any email from admissions? School is encouraging me to consider executive program. While I understand that I will have same quality of education in exec MBA, my professional and PERSONAL goals are not met by exec MBA. Anybody in same boat?

You should cancel at the Doubletree and rebook at any of the following:

Red Roof Inn on The Corner (University Ave)
Hampton Inn on University Ave (not 29 N, Seminole Trail)
Courtyard by Marriott on University Ave
Omni on the Downtown Mall
Cavalier Inn

The Doubletree is quite a ways from Thomas Jefferson's Grounds and is only a good place if you want to shop at Sam's Club or get a new car from the Brown Automotive Group.

I know it is a little far away from Darden, however I will be staying in town for quite some time. The Doubletree gave me the best deal/discount for my stay so I decided to go for it. Too late to cancel now.

FYI- So I spoke with a second year student today who will be working for McKinsey next year. She told me that this year Darden had 21 offers from McKinsey alone (1Y+2Y) and comparable numbers with Bain and BCG. She mentioned that these are the strongest consulting numbers with MBB that Darden has ever seen (and they've seen some good ones).

Exciting stuff for those going into consulting!

That's unbelievable! Thanks for the information.

Would you happen to know the approximate breakdown between internships and fulltime offers?

Have you guys given any updates to them apart from pressing 'Yes' for being in the wait-list?

I'm not sure about Bain/BCG but for McKinsey it was 9FT/12Internships
Historically it appears that B/B have hired more out of Darden than McK

Do folks know if Darden does an employment background check (similar to some of the other b-school program)? If so, have any admits received any notification of the process yet? Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, all background checks have already been done prior to admission (perhaps only a selected few were checked because I know no one called up my recommenders [yet]). I called the admission office a while back to inquire about this and the lady told me that there's no post-admission background checks performed.
