Hi,

Because the maximum value of x is 3 and the maximum value of y is 7 (as y<8), the maximum value of xy is 21. Therefore it cannot be 24

Answer C)
Edit: my bad I wrote answer C) instead of answer E)

0 ≤ x ≤ 3 and y < 8

i.e. x*y < 24

i.e. x*y can NOT be equal to 24 hence

Option D & E both are could not possible values of xy.

Given that 0 ≤ x ≤ 3, and y < 8,

A. Is true as x can be zero
B. Is true as x*y = 2*4
C. Is true as x*y = 3*4
D. Is true as x*y = 2.5 * 6.4
E. Not true as the maximum value of x is 3 and the maximum value of y is 7 (as y<8), the maximum value of xy is 21

Min possible value of x = 0 ; Max possible value of x = 3
Max possible value of y = 7

So, \(0 < xy < 21\)

Now check the options , all the options except (E) falls within the given range, answer must be (E)

Range of xy is: 0 < xy < 23.97, since it is not given that x and y are integers.

None of which are possible

it is not mentioned anywhere that x & y are integeres so consider x=3 and y=16/3 . Therefore, xy = 16

It's not given that x and y have to be integers. So xy=16 is possible, xy<24 always.

Since 0 ≤ x ≤ 3, and y < 8 therefore for xy=24, x could be maximum = 3 and y could be =8 but since y cant be equal to 8 therefore xy could not be equal to 24

Hence E
