GMAT Online - What We Know [Master Topic]

Just venting a little bit, though all is not lost yet.

I just took it. I was finally up to getting 710 - 740 consistently in the practice tests, but have a strong feeling that I flunked the quant part again this time. Questions felt too easy, at the end, I had to guess on too many, and I also ran out of time, which quite discouraging as I'm confident I could have done the last three questions.

The one thing I'd definitely like to raise, which I also highlighted in the survey post-exam is that I find the way proctoring is handled extremely lacking.

1. I lost a good six minutes in total due to proctor interruptions during the quant sections, time was not paused or added back and these interruptions are extremely stressful and distracting
2. My head or face was never out of frame, or even partially in the frame, I did, however, have it tilted as I was working with a physical whiteboard. I was told twice to show my face, when my head was in full view, but just tilted down
3. I was told to re-centre my camera a couple of times. My camera is fixed on my screen (pop up camera integrated in the screen), both times I just said out loud 'I'm looking at the screen and the camera is fixed' as it was in the verbal section. I didn't actually change anything on the setup, but the proctor then at some point just wrote 'ok'
4. These interruptions came from proctors with different names, so apparently the monitoring is just being passed around. That explains multiple interruptions for the same nonsensical reason, but again, quite annoyed and frankly disappointed with how this was handled and seems to be done in general

Looks like GMAT has chosen another vendor - Examity.

To start with it is a bit longer process to register since one needs to create an Id on Examity. Hopefully, changes will be in the way exams are proctored and not in the that they are scored.

It is pretty annoying and disturbing to be getting harassed by the proctors for no reason it seems. There is also a lack of clarity and transparency about looking and doing work. It really does not help. I definitely feel for you. It seems there’s been a pretty significant uptick in the number of aggressive proctor reports or test cancellations. I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence but in the last two days we’ve gotten three or four. Maybe there have been some changes to the proctor training or who knows.... I don’t mind strict rules as long as they’re clearly spelled out and rightfully and uniformly enforced. Otherwise, it’s like walking on a minefield without a metal detector... It’s pure luck and a game of chance.

So, I received 740, in spite of my issues... (updating my profile now )

An honest question, not being an asshole with this: On average has the GMAT online led to a distribution of better scores for people? I am seriously incredulous and surprised my score is so high after the experience I've had....

I can’t think of too many issues with that but why? What would you gain by doing that? Are you trying to elevate it?

I probably wouldn't do that. What if you need to use the chat window during the test?

So with the GMAT online format, the maximum times one could take the exam is twice? (once and the one retake allowed) and to do so it would cost
(2*$250 = $500)

Yes. Since September 2020, you can only take the gym at online two times. This seems to be the case as we switch to a new online test provider. It is a mystery why 🤷‍♂️
