Hi Khulan,

If it's been 11 months since you last took a practice GMAT CAT/mock, then we don't have much of an idea of your current 'ability level' in that Exam right now (and it's possible that while studying for the GRE, you honed some skills that would help you score higher on the GMAT). As such, you might consider taking a NEW practice GMAT (you can access 2 for free from www.mba.com) so that we can define your current skills, strengths and weaknesses. Once you have that Score, you should post back here and we can discuss the results.

If it turns out that you're scoring at the same general level as before (in the high-500s), then you would almost certainly find it easier to continue studying for the GRE (since picking up those additional 7 points should take far less effort than raising your GMAT Score 100+ points).

1) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

Hi KhulanE,

From what I can tell, you have prepared for many months for the GRE while you really have not done much GMAT studying. With all that in mind, I have an important question. Do you feel as though you have maxed out your GRE prep? Or do you feel that wtih more time you could improve your GRE verbal score?

Hello GMAT experts,

I had prepared several months before switching to GRE and actually took GRE this year. I got 318=Q165+V153.
Now I am again oscillating between GRE and GMAT because of the verbal section.
I want to push my score above GMAT 700+ or GRE 325+ mainly by improving my verbal score. And here is the main question. Which one is more realistic in terms of achieving the desired score within a month or two but no more than that.
I converted my GRE verbal score to GMAT verbal and it was v30. So my target score on verbal is GRE 160+ or GMAT 40.

I searched on the internet looking for some answers but could not find any useful ones.
Hope for some advice.

BR,
Khulan

HI KhulanE

I will give you the answer in least words

1) If you are like learning and applying logic than byhearting the words then you should prefer GMAT over GRE
2) You quant in GMAT mock exam is not bad so you are right that the decision must be based on Verbal competencies
3) I have seen more students getting GMAT 700+ than GRE 325+ in my 17 years of training students for both these exams

I hope this help to some bit. :)

In that case you know my recommendation.

The reviews about whiteboard don't matter anymore now. All the best. Feel free to reach out for any other help or suggestions. :)

Yesterday, I took GMAT mock 2 from MBA.com and got 640 (Q50, V27).
I can study at least 20 hours a week consistently.

Until the exam, I was overwhelmed by the vocabulary, but I felt some improvement on my reading, but still could not understand hard passages. Even if I had time I couldn't have gotten the score I wanted. I think I needed some time to refresh and assurance that I was improving.

Hi Khulan,

Assuming that you took this practice GMAT CAT in a realistic fashion that matches-up with how you would have to take the Official GMAT - and that this Score is a reasonably accurate assessment of your skills - it certainly appears that your GRE studies have helped you to hone some of your GMAT skills. Considering that you're coming off of several months of GRE study (and know more about the overall format and content of that Exam), I think that you would probably have a better chance at hitting your GRE Score Goal (in a shorter period of time) than you would hitting 700+ on the GMAT. Thankfully, both Exams are consistent and predictable, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

Since you're not facing any immediate application deadlines and you appear to have plenty of potential study time going forward, you can approach the next phase of your studies (for either Exam) however you like. Are you more 'comfortable' with either of the two Tests?
