If \(\frac{\sqrt{x}}{y} = n\), what is the value of x?

(1) yn = 10

(2) y = 40 and n = 1/4

(1) yn = 10
n= \(\frac{10}{y}\)
\(\frac{10}{y}=\frac{\sqrt{x}}{y}\)
this will give us x
sufficient

(2) y = 40 and n = 1/4
sufficient

This is an OG question and the official answer is D. x cannot be negative because it's under the square root. Even roots, such as the square root, is NOT defined for negative numbers on the GMAT.

Rebirth : we would be squaring 10 and square of a number is always positive. So answer is 100 in both cases.
