i agree...it is pretty alarming to see that large number. i'm wondering if r2 will be different than the trend we're seeing with r1.
as far as the assessment day goes, what vd9 and menonvik wrote are correct - the assessment day summaries from last year's forum are pretty much spot on. the areas where i thought was surprising, though, were the individual interviews and group exercises. you can expect questions that directly pertain to your application and others that are not but something you should be able to easily answer, of course assuming you know enough about yourself, your goals, imd, etc. the challenge for me was finding a way where i could connect with my interviewer. this was important b/c i knew the answers and therefore could rattle it off. i wanted my answers, however, to resonate with the interviewer instead of just providing a quick and flippant response. part of that was to ensure that i found a way to move past the interviewer/ee relationship and into a more free-flowing information exchange. i think this dimension of interviewing is an art and something that i believe all imd applicants possess (yes, b/c we're top talent!). wrt the group exercises, it can sometimes be hard to remember that you're being individually assessed b/c it is pretty easy to get in the mode of answering the problem. i believe we were able to work well together in the group exercises because there was a conscious decision to work together and demonstrate our ability to effectively work in a group environment.
