This was pretty simple.

Statement 1 gives one variable and statement 2 gives one variable. Individually they don't give much information; however, together they give you the maximum Andrea's shopping cart's total be.

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Determine if the total price of the items in Andrea’s shopping cart is less than $25.00.

(1) Given that there are 5 items in Andrea’s shopping cart, it is possible that the total price of the items is less than $25.00 (e.g., the price of each of the 5 items is $4.00) and it is possible that the total price of the items is not less than $25.00 (e.g., the price of each of the 5 items is $5.00); NOT sufficient.

(2) Given that the most expensive item in Andrea’s shopping cart is $4.99, it is possible that the total price of the items is less than $25.00 (e.g., there are only 2 items, each priced at $4.99) and it is possible that the total price of the items is not less than $25.00 (e.g., there are 10 items, each priced at $4.99); NOT sufficient.

Given (1) and (2) together, the total price of the items is at most 5($4.99), which in turn is less than 5($5.00) = $25.00.

The correct answer is C; both statements together are sufficient.
