A. $275 B.$330
C. $350 D.$385
E. $425 On the remaining days, James works 40 hours as it has been given he works 10 hours on Monday. The rates on all the other days are$5.5 and rate on Monday is $$11(2*5.5)$$

Therefore, James's total earnings for the week is $$40*5.5 + 10*11 = 220 + 110 = 330$$(Option B)

If James worked 50 hours last week including 10 hours on Monday, what were his earnings for the week?

=> Earnings on days except Monday = $5.5 / hour => Earning on Mondays = 2* earning on remaining days = 2*5.5 =$11/ hour

James worked = 50 hours = 40 hours + 10 hours on Monday
Earnings = 40 * salary of remaining week + 10* Monday salary = 40 * 5.5 + 10* 11 = 330

E. $425 Amount earned on every day but Monday =$5.5
Amount earned on Monday = 2 * 5.5 = $11 Total hours worked = 50 hrs Hours worked on Monday = 10 hrs Total amount earned = 10*11 + (50-10)*5.5 =$330

James earns $5.5 on all other days except Monday . On Monday he earns$11(2*5.5)

Total working hours :50
10 on Monday which means 10*11=110
40 on rest of the days which means 40*5.5=220

Total amount earned=110+220=330

E. $425 Since James earns twice his regular rate of$5.50 on Monday, he earns $11 per hour on Monday. Since he worked 10 hours on Monday and 40 hours on days other than Monday, he earned: 10 x 11 + 40 x 5.5 = 110 + 220 = 330 dollars Answer: B _________________ Jeffery Miller Head of GMAT Instruction GMAT Quant Self-Study Course 500+ lessons 3000+ practice problems 800+ HD solutions Re: James earns$5.50 per hour on days other than Mondays and twice that &nbs [#permalink] 03 Oct 2017, 09:18
