"A swimmer makes a round trip up and down the river which takes her x hours. If the next day she swims the same distance with the same speed in still water, which takes her y hours, which of the following statements is true?"

I think this is a very poorly worded question. It is entirely possible that their was no current on the first day's trip

Indeed.

"A swimmer makes a round trip up and down the river which takes her x hours. If the next day she swims the same distance with the same speed in still water, which takes her y hours, which of the following statements is true?"

a) x > y
b) x < y
c) x = y
d) x = 1/2*y
e) None of the above

OA: A

The issue I have is that to get this answer, we have to assume there was a current on day one. Additionally, I also think the wording 'the same speed' is amiguous. Are we talking about the swimmers non-current speed, speed with the current, speed against the current, average speed on the first trip, etc.
