I live in Dubai (I'm of Indian origin), and I am absolutely mortified by the job market in here. I am recent graduate in accounting and finance and finding a job here is an absolute nightmare. My GPA is 2.771 and I have 2 month's internship experience(which i did during my college vacations). I am losing hope because of my lack of inexperience is not getting me a job anywhere. Moreover my father does not have many contacts to get me through to a good place.
I had this one idea in mind. That I would pursue Masters in Finance after an year at a reputed university such as HEC Paris or ESADE business school. But since my GPA isn't very good, I am planning to take up CFA level 1 and finish it by December.I need an opinion on that. I shall pursue it regardless of me getting a job or not. So should I take an year off and do some extra courses on financial modelling as well with CFA? Will that boost my admissions application when I apply to these schools? I need some solid opinion. Please help me.
Thanks for your post. I recommend trying to get a high GMAT score to show your academic aptitude. Taking a year off to take some courses would likely hurt your profile actually because you may compete with applicants who have full-time jobs and take extra courses. Instead you could focus on preparing applications and applying for a job (which is challenging as you say). Having some employment is better than not having any so I would explore what is possible.
Best,
