oh wow. that's only a week from 20th April deadline. I wonder if those who get later interview invites will have more time to complete the interviews.

sanjuro9 & tttrn333 - thank you for the kind words. I hope I get in too (as we all do)! :)

jfk - My original quant percentile was below the 75% mark. INSEAD is really strict about that and advised me to retake the gmat to satisfy the requirement.

sanjuro9 - I was given a soft deadline to complete my interviews "preferably by the end of April." I've scheduled my first interview for next Tuesday 4/10, and my second is still TBD.

Hi,

I am applying to INSEAD for the JAN 2013 class. I have a couple of questions regarding the app
Can anyone who has already applied provide some info

Any idea how strict insead is about word limits. Is it okay to go over by 10%?

Is the optional question

6. Is there anything that you have not mentioned in your application that you would like the
Admissions Committee to know? (350 words maximum)

meant to explain special circumstances such as gaps in employment or low GPA
OR
Is it something like a open-ended question asking for any new experience which I haven't mentioned in the other essays?

Thanks a lot for the info, LSSMBA!

On their website they say

Quote:
INSEAD does not have a minimum required GMAT score. Rather than focusing on your overall score, we assess your individual results in the quantitative and verbal sections of the exam, and we look for you to demonstrate your strengths in both. In order to be competitive, you should aim to achieve a score at or above the 70 - 75 percentiles in both. Please keep in mind, however, that the GMAT is just one of several admission criteria. A high score does not guarantee admission, and a below average score does not eliminate a candidate.

Was your quant score below 70 percentile as well?

Sorry for being so nosy... I'm just in the middle of my GMAT preps and INSEAD is one of my target schools.

Thanks a lot and good luck!

The word limits are strict. The form won't let you submit the application unless the word limits are corrected.

For your second question, I think its your choice. If you have a low GPA, GMAT that wish to explain go right ahead. If you think you have substantial to add to the application that you don't have a chance to demonstrate in rest of the seven essays also go ahead. I believe that I read it in the Paul Bodine book if later is the case, then make sure that its truly something exceptional or out of the ordinary that can't be fit into other essays. You may seek opinion of others on this. I didn't write the optional essay.

When I applied for '13J (sept 2012 intake), the application explicitly stated the word count (and amount over the requested word count) as you typed in your essay, but it did not prevent me from submitting an essay that was over that word count. I was over the word count for most my essays.

General advice is 10% over the word count is OK.

Do you know what does the invitation for an interview mean in sense of admission chance? is it good indication? is INSEAD more open to invite more applicants or what?

There is no official statistics available for this, the following is purely what I have heard (read) from ex-students and applicants -

assuming they have about 80 spots left in the class of 13'J, they will admit 100 (80% yield) and invite 200 for interviews (50% admit from interview invites).

so, yes, its a very good sign if you get invited for an interview.

we have only 10 or so here in R3. considering the kind of applicants who care to join gmatclub and post here, i expect at least 80% to receive interview invites and a good percentage to receive final admission offers. lets be patient and hope for the best.

From the waitlist thread, the current number is about 443 on MBAConnect (INSEAD's internal site for admitted students). This is quiet inline with last year's number right around this time. Around the deadline for R3 interview invites, this dropped to 420s. The final class was just a little above 500.

You can assume that the rounding I have done goes to WLed applicants. Makes sense?
