So I take it you're not "officially out of the WL game" quite yet, highwyre?

Nahh I'm all in at Johnson, just waiting for my counselor to write my official withdrawal to.

I like your faith, keep it up! I got my email from the Counselor but at this point, not sure what the chances are. I think most other schools' deposit deadline have passed and Fuqua should have a good estimate on their class size based on who's made their deposit and who's withdrawn from the WL because he or she got accepted somewhere else. Someone please explain to me how this works... What sort of activity goes on during the Summer and how many people really do notify Fuqua (during the summer) that they're not coming because they've been accepted somewhere else, even after they've made their deposit at Fuqua? I would think the only other date they would know their definite yield is on Orientation day, August 1... which way too short notice for ANYBODY (living outside the Durham area) to uproot their life from anywhere to Durham.

I also think that Fuqua has made offers to everyone they want in their incoming class and that the people on their current waitlist are people they want to "keep on their radar" for the next admissions cycle (and possibly make them an offer), if they will be applying next year. The point of the Waitlist Conselor is to get a clearer picture of each applicant's situation. Just my 2 cents, here...

You're somewhat correct, I think at this point its mostly people trading places on WLs...

Think of it this way

Student A is in at HBS
Student B is in at Wharton and WL at HBS
Student C is in at CBS and WL at Wharton
Student D is in at Duke and WL at CBS
You are WL at Duke.

Student A gets a sweet new promotion and doesnt want to head to school anymore.

He tells HBS, and it starts a chain reaction. HBS calls Student B, and he's all like... Wharton Peace! I'm heading to HBS.

Wharton is all like... wtf... now we'll steal one of those CBS guys... So student C gets a call. He's like... NYC is awesome and all, but Columbia is in a pretty boring area of the city, looks like I'm heading to Philly

Student D, who had a great time at DBW, but is worried about leaving all of his friends in NYC gets a call, looks like he wont have to worry, he's off to CBS.

Now Duke has an open spot, and they're like... whats a class of 430 really need... I hear that tobud guy knows how to ride a unicycle... Do we have any unicyclists in our class yet? Oh, we have 3... alright, well that ok4eva guy was wearing some pretty cool sunglasses when he visited campus... we could really use people with better sunglasses... lets go with him

And thats how WL admissions work... its a perfect science.

Well, for the clowns that fail to notify schools that they're canceling their deposit, I would imagine the deadline to pay tuition is where the school gets a good idea of who's flaking on them.

Thanks for your clarification, I see your point here. But my question and doubts still are, do all Student Ds who are in and have paid their deposits, notify Duke that they've been accepted to other schools of their choice?

Oh well, time will tell I guess...

In a perfect world, sure, but of course not.

I think CobraKai is correct, you'll see the most movement right around tuition deposit time... I'd assume this would be within a week or so before orientation... So, until then, I'd expect it to be mostly random people leaving because they got off another WL or their circumstances have changed. We'd all like to think that once someone's mind is made up they'll tell adcom... but yeah, its human nature to put off what we perceive as uncomfortable conversations. (me included about withdrawing from the WL)

Wait...I'm confused. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but shouldn't you always go with the extra unicyclist?

you know the golden rule... 3 unicyclists is a party, 4 is a circus... what do you want them to be like those weirdos over at chapel hill?

I got my waitlist counselor Tuesday around 9am, so, I think it probably depends on each counselor to send out an email.

I spoke with my counselor today - they said that Duke hasn't gone to the waitlist yet this year... it seems, as has been previously stated, Duke had a strong yield this year. I think its worthwhile to start stalking the HBS, Booth, CBS, Stanford waitlisted forums to see when there is movement off those lists - then it'll trickle down to Duke.

I have a question concerning the Duke MBA Class of 2015 Facebook group, as I just now checked it out. It says there are 730 members, about how many of these are new admits to the class of 2015? Are they 700??

It includes members from class of 2013, 2014 and 2015. There is no way you can find out how many those are new admits, unless you linkedin all 730 of them and build your analysis.

I also had a phone chat with my counselor and she told me that they currently don't have a prediction on how many spots will open up. She also said that in past they had years where they didn't make any offers during summer.
