dormor, look at you cleaning house! Congrats, man!
Thanks @Aerien .
I'm very happy with my decision to reapply this year. after all last years dings/WL.
Hi Dormor, looks like you are reaplicant from last year. Can you share your actions after you got dings/WL last year? How did you improve your profile? Did you do anything else to get attention from schools? I'm still waiting on my response from NYU (interviewed almost 4 weeks ago - this Thursday will be exactly 4 weeks), but just thinking that if I don't get in I might just wait and reapply next year. However, I am not 100% sure about what I can do in order to imrpove my profile. I would really appreciate if you could please share with me some of your actions to improve your profile. Thank you and good luck with your choices!
Well, first I hope you don't need to be a re-applicant and that you hear good news from Stern.
Well, the main thing I did was get my story straight.
I made sure my post-MBA plans (which always change the minute you walk into business school as we are all told) really align with my past. this time around I made sure to create a clear path from my past, to the business school and into the future.
I also made sure to stop using so much essay space about how much I love the school and the culture and how students love each other. (team fuqua anyone?)
Instead, I wrote in more details on my past linking to the need of business school in general, made sure I had a vision and they know what it is, and about the school - I focused on specific Prof that teach specific courses with specific skills that I need. Also talked about specific special programs like leadership.
I barely mentioned how much I love the school or the area or the culture or the students or much the Prof love to hang out with students.
I also visited schools, (not NYU before interview) and I mentioned this on my essays.
The results were much better this time around.
B.T.W - I had so much dingable holes in my story (age, undergrad dropout, industry switch in my WE) - a good solid story can counter almost anything.
I think my lack of clear path made me a bad interviewee last year.
