Thank you for sharing your credentials for all of to review! If your priority is to gain admission and secure a scholarship, I would suggest you consider the following options*:

(1) Georgetown (McDonough)
(2) UNC (Kenan-Flagler)
(3) Cornell (Johnson)
(4) Indiana (Kelley)
(5) Washington (Foster)

*I am not sure if you will definitely get into these programs and how much you would receive in merit-based scholarship.

The two big issues in your profile are that you have only a 690 on the GMAT and you are coming from a very competitive demographic. That makes things difficult for you to gain admission and to be in the mix for a scholarship. Would you consider retaking the exam? 30+ points would go a long way in helping your chances.

Good luck,

Hi austinmathew,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Starting with the stats, your undergrad GPA seems quite good. I suggest you should target at least 700+ GMAT; it will maximize your chances. On the work front, your work experience is lower than the average required. You will need to make your profile stand out. Talking about the responsibilities you've taken on will demonstrate your potential. In terms of voluntary work, your applications should represent a collaborative leader and a compassionate person. You have been promoted to president, which surely indicates your maturity as a leader and how effectively you contributed to the community. Your ECs are good as well. Speaking about all this with enthusiasm would add diversity to your profile, and adcoms will get to know different aspects of your personality.

Overall you have a good profile and do have a chance at Alberta. What are your post-mba goals? It plays a vital role while shortlisting the b-schools. What will matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story to stand out from other applicants in the pool. You may want to read an article on low GMAT success story to Rotman, you will get some insights :) If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you to discuss your profile in length and further chances to b-schools. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Hi tortex,

Thank you for sharing your profile. To begin with, your undergrad GPA is good, and you have a low GMAT score, but it is quite good for Alberta. As the average GMAT score for Alberta is 619. However, your overall profile is the most important. We recently assisted an applicant with a GMAT score of 640 to get admission to IE Business School. As a result, other areas of your profile must make up for a low GMAT score. On the work front, you have good 11 years of work experience. You didn't share much, but I'm assuming it is good and impactful. You can share an instance where you were in a leadership position, adding leadership attributes to your profile. What are your post-MBA goals? You must present compelling reasons for pursuing a PT MBA, as well as how an MBA from Alberta will help you fill gaps in your profile and achieve your goals. The most crucial aspect of your profile is how you connect the dots and tell a compelling narrative. Overall, a good profile and a shot at the business school. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to the b-schools. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

You have a good profile for Alberta - overall well-balanced.

My biggest concern is your starting age. Alberta skews a little older (average age of 29) so it's not as much of a hurdle as some other top schools that hover around 26-27. Obviously there's nothing you can do about that!

Still, I don't think that will hold you back necessarily. Make sure you write great essays and articulate that really cool career goal you have laid out in this post.

Good luck,
