Hi Paul,
In your book you encourage your readers to "be specific" in writing their goals.
After b-school, I would like to manage a business unit of a larger company - such as managing one country's operations.
Is stating General Manager as a goal not specific enough? If so, what can I do not to sound vague?
Thanks.
Hellom3p,
Thanks for reading my book. Stating the specific job title(s) you're aiming for is one way to be specific, but not the only one. You can state what types of companies you would be interested in working for (industries, niches), what regions of the world you would be especially interested in working in, and sketch out a post-MBA career timeline: short-term doing X, 5 years after MBA doing Y, 15 years out doing Z, and so on. Even better, if you can refer to people you know, have read about, or have done informational interviews with who have actually followed the career track you are proposing, you could refer to them in
your goals statementto give it added credibility.
Good luck!
