Hello, All!

I was lucky enough to score a 750 on the GMAT (only self-study, in 2 months, yay!) but most likely got a low AWA (sub-4.5) due to exhaustion after the first three sections. My essay was only 3 paragraphs long with no clear transitions like "first of all", "in conclusion", etc. and I'm really worried I will end up having to retake the test beause of a dismal AWA score. I know that the scoring machine takes into account those clear transition phrases and length of the overall piece pretty heavily. The irony is that I'm definitely one of the most poet-esque people around, which is why I was too cocky to dedicate a sufficient amount of time brushing up on the AWA, focusing only on the V and Q.
I took the exam 2 days ago so my AWA score will probably be out in about a week, I think. If I do get a sub-4 AWA do you think I should retake if aiming for top 10 US 2y full-time program?

No, I think that you should relax. The fact that you got 750 speaks highly of your capability. However, it is upto the adcoms. Why don't you ask an admission consultant?

Best of luck for the applications! Try to relax and not bother too much about the AWA score. I am sure that you will do well even if you have to take the test again!(hopefully not)

Don't worry about the AWA, 750 is an insane score and a v42 shows you already have excellent verbal skills so don't worry about AWA.

If you write well and wrote on topic, then even a short essay can get a score of 5, so I wouldn't even worry about it until you get the official result. Some programs really won't care about the AWA score, while some will care a bit (though not nearly as much as they care about the overall score). If you wanted to know about specific programs, you'd probably need to ask an Admissions Consultant, but I'd bet you'll be fine even with a 4 on the AWA.
