(1) a = b
(2) a + b = y

Does ay + by = -5

(1) a = b but no information abt y
not sufficient

(2) a+b = y
ay + by
y^2
no information abt y..not sufficient on combining no values of a, b, y given

E

Y^2 will always be positive and cant be equal to -5.

Rephrase question
Is ay+by=-5
Is y(a+b)= -5

St:1 No info about y. So NS
St :2 a+b=y, (multiplying Y both side)
y(a+b)=y^2
From above y(a+b) cant be negative.
So answer is confirmed No. Hence sufficient.
