So I took the GMAT September 12 with a goal of 730 and received a 710 and cancelled it. In the 2 GMAC (GMAT Prep) tests I took I got a 750 both times. I felt like the Quant section was harder (but got a 49 which I guess I'm okay with ideally I'd get a 50 though), but then got a 39 on Verbal where I usually get at least a 40 sometimes up to a 44. I walked out super disappointed and discouraged and took a week off from studying.
Now I'm back to studying and planning to take the online version in 10 days. I took another GMAC/GMAT Prep practice test and received a 760. So now that I've received 750, 750, and 760 on the what I understand are the most accurate practice tests is there anything special I should do to prepare? Was the 710 just a fluke? I'm just worried I'm gonna be disappointed and discouraged in my score again. I will say in the days leading up to the test I started cramming for the AWA so I don't know if that messed me up.
Right now I study for 2 hours 5 days a week and take a practice test. I am now working full-time so I have limited time/mental capacity. Last thing I'll say is that the in-person test environment and increased difficulty of the quant section compared to the GMAC practice tests threw me off.
Any and all advice is welcome!!
Hi there,
I experienced the same problem as yours 2 months ago - mine was even more extreme! Scoring 770 and 780 in GMAT Prep and 640 in my first attempt! I did the mock exam in a serious manner and I honestly think that the questions in my first attempt ARE MUCH MORE DIFFICULT than those in official mock exams! (sadly no one believes me LOL) I think the GMAT PREP questions are really much easier than those in the my first real GMAT exam!
I finished my second and third GMAT attempt last month with 730 and 750, and I think the questions in both attempts are much "normal". I suspect that there is an algorithm that gives you harder questions in your first try!! haha!! so that you have to pay again for subsequent attempts LOL
Anyway, I am confident that you will get your desired score in your second try.
