Hey everyone –
I'm a senior at an ivy league studying a STEM major with a 3.81 cumulative GPA up until this point. My school allowed students to take classes either for letter grades as normal or P/F, and that rule was extended into this semester.
I took 2 out of 4 classes P/F last semester and am planning to take 3 or 4 out of 7 classes P/F this semester (taking 7 classes in order to graduate in December). Also took a summer class this past summer and got an A.
I'm applying to HBS & GSB (& Wharton) – how do these 2+2 programs evaluate candidates' transcripts? Would these P/F classes hurt my chance, given the broader COVID-impacted environment? Would I have the opportunity to explain my rationale for doing so at any point in my application process?
I do have personal circumstances that could probably justify the decision (the biggest thing is my illness + surgery).
Would really appreciate any input as I have to make the P/F decision in a few days. Thanks so much.
I'd say as long as the majority of your classes are not P/F, you should be in ok shape. And yes, use the additional essay space given to explain your illness/surgery and how you were able to balance class and the recovery. As long as the rest of your application is strong, I don't think this will be a major issue, especially if you get a 740+ on the GMAT and have had impactful internships throughout your college experience.
