"everybody" is the subject, so "I" should be used instead of "me"

(B) everybody works faster than I.
Correct answer.

(C) everyone works more quickly than me.
"everyone" is the subject, so "I" should be used instead of "me"

(D) everybody works more quickly than I do.
"more quickly" changes the meaning.

(E) everybody works faster than I work.
"I work" is not needed.

i dont understand why there is no "do" at the end. I fill it should be "everyone works faster than i do". Thats why i choose D even though it change faster to more quickly.

That's how we speak. It's not a good question, because it differentiates between American English and British English, according to me.

You and I need to get ready.


Me

Me is an object pronoun, which means that it refers to the person that the action of a verb is being done to, or to which a preposition refers.

David told me to leave.

He gave me ten dollars.

Between you and me, this is a bad idea.

She needs to talk to Joe or me.

Same is also true for "We" vs "Us". Here is a list of subject and corresponding object pronouns:

Just between you and (I or me?), this is a bad idea.
Because "between" needs to be followed by a plural, we'll use "we" and "us" to figure this out.

And whatever you do, please don't use a subject pronoun and object pronoun together.

He and I - correct: "He and I are going to town."
Him and me - correct: "She told him and me the truth."
Him and I - WRONG
He and me - WRONG

I don't like the question.

There is no reason to prefer "faster" over "more quickly". Either can work. Use of "I do" is not incorrect though "do" is implied even if it is not mentioned. Considering the sentence has a few words only, brevity doesn't account for much.

Since it is a comparison, it is better to compare the nominative case "everybody" with nominative case "I". The use of "me" is acceptable in spoken English but most people will use "I" formally.

not sure. I think 'faster' is more concise than 'more quickly' but both usages are correct. This is a dodgy question!

Can we please have some expert advise on why choice E is incorrect? The only difference between choice E and the choice B (correct choice) is the last word "work" in choice E. In choice B it seems "work" is implied at the end of the sentence, i.e, everybody works faster than I (do/work). However in choice E "work" has been explicitly mentioned in the sentence. Cannot figure out why that would make it an incorrect choice.

You're completely correct—and, frankly, this problem is a mess.

Both of the choices you mentioned, as you suspect, are acceptable sentences. (Choice E has an unnecessary extra word, but wordiness—which is not strictly an error—will never be the only problem in one of GMAC's wrong answers.)

Moreover, the GMAT absolutely does not test pronoun case (the difference between choices A and B here). That topic has never been tested in the entire 69-year history of this exam.


Going forward, I don't recommend using problems from this source.
