Re: Group 14 Question 70: According to researchers, students exposed to... [#permalink]

Official Explanation:

According to researchers, students exposed to a wider variety of GMAT question types fared better than students who were only exposed to a narrow set of GMAT questions. The GMAT tests students on several topics including quantitative, verbal, and integrated reasoning. Because the GMAT adapts to how students are doing on the actual test and questions get progressively harder and more varied, all students should be exposed to ________________.

Which of the following best completes the sentence?

(A) a more varied question bank that includes questions of different difficulties
(B) a question bank that prioritizes the verbal reasoning section over the integrated reasoning section
(C) a question bank that prioritizes the quantitative reasoning section over the verbal reasoning section
(D) a question bank that prioritizes the integrated reasoning section over the quantitative reasoning section
(E) a question bank that prioritizes analytical writing over all the multiple-choice sections

Question Type: Complete the Passage
Boil It Down: The wider variety of questions students are exposed to before taking the GMAT, the better their scores are overall. The GMAT also adapts as you take it - the better you do, the harder and more varied the questions become. Therefore…??
Goal: Find the phrase that would best finish this argument.

Analysis:

We’re going to keep this explanation short and sweet. Our goal here is to find a phrase that would best help to support the main argument: the wider or more broad the set of questions a student is exposed to while studying for the GMAT, the better their scores tend to be when they take the exam. The correct option will show readers HOW a student can improve their chances of getting a higher score, based on the information we’ve been given.

(A) a more varied question bank that includes questions of different difficulties
A is correct because the passage suggests that, due to the computer adaptive nature of the GMAT, questions get progressively harder and students preparing to take the GMAT should be exposed to a wider variety of question types to ensure that they are the most prepared.

(B) a question bank that prioritizes the verbal reasoning section over the integrated reasoning section
B is incorrect because the passage does not suggest a weighting of the varying sections of the GMAT.

(C) a question bank that prioritizes the quantitative reasoning section over the verbal reasoning section
C is incorrect for the same reason B is incorrect.

(D) a question bank that prioritizes the integrated reasoning section over the quantitative reasoning section
D is incorrect for the same reason B and C are incorrect.

(E) a question bank that prioritizes analytical writing over all the multiple-choice sections
E is incorrect because, while analytical writing is a section of the GMAT, it is not mentioned in the passage and the passage does not suggest a weighting of the varying sections of the GMAT.

Don’t study for the GMAT. Train for it.

since given in passage the GMAT tests on various sections hence it has to be prepared from a question bank offering preparation material for all sections and one has to prepare all sections and all difficulty levels of questions with equal importance.
