It has to be E because we are looking at an alternative reason as to why people prefer visiting retail stores because of the commonly bought items

The other options are irrelevant

When mailing packages, many people choose to go not to the post office but to a retail store that provides mailing options, though at a slightly higher cost than that of the post office. Interestingly, people who make this choice do not do so because the retailers are more conveniently located or have shorter lines.

Which of the following, if true, best accounts for the choice that some people make to go to a retail store rather than to the post office to mail packages?

(A) Typically, post offices have been in operation for decades, while the retail stores have been in business for ten years or less.
(B) The profit margins at the retail stores are higher than those at post offices.
(C) The people who choose to go to the retail stores have higher incomes than those who do not.
(D) Most people who choose to go to post offices are not aware of the location of the retail stores.
(E) The retail stores sell commonly bought items that are not available at the post office.

I do not agree with answer because we are just talking about ppl who choose to go to retail can also be rich and they don't care about money.

Hi Shreyaskn, the correct answer here is (E), not (C).
