Time = job/rate

Job = 1 tank
Rate = 1/8 (rate of emptying) - 1/10 (rate of filling)

1/ (1/8 -1/10) = 40 minutes

LCM of 10 and 8 is what?

Solution:

We can create the equation where t is the time (in minutes) to empty the tank:

(1/8 - 1/10)t = 1

t/40 = 1

t = 40

Answer: D
