-22 years old (planning to go back in Fall '08)
-African American
-3.4 undergrad overall, double major in finance/international business. It was closer to 3.0 my freshman year, but my last 5 semester were mostly all A's and B+s.
studied abroad in London for a semester. Traveled around Europe.
-will have two years full time work experience in real estate private equity at matriculation. I worked all throughout college part time (20-30 hrs/wk) in asset managment. Also interened at Lehman my junior yr. summer.
-very active in college: vice president of my business frat, chairman of finance trip to NYC, mentored freshman in the business school, commencement speaker at my aunt's camp for at risk youth, participated in relay for life. Haven't had as much time to be active in extracurricular activities since. Hopefully will have time after I retake the GMAT.
-GMAT 1st try: 650 (I scored lower than my practice tests in math because I panicked after I thought I screwed up the AWA. Ended up getting a 5.5). I'm going to take it again and I'm very confident that I will score above 700.
Schools: Stanford, HBS, Wharton, Columbia
Career: Investment Banking
My aunt went to HBS. Think that will help at HBS? She has already started forwarding me info that they send to her.
The main thing I'm worried about is my limited work experience. I haven't had situations where I've had people working under me but the person above me quit and I had to step up and help out with work above my level in the company. Since then, I've been assigned my own projects with oversight and also taken on a bigger role on other people's projects.
My main reasonings for getting an MBA are:
-there is still a lot of tacit and codified knowledge out there that I want to know.
-I feel its the next natural step in my progression into a leader in business and in life
-I want to make a career change and go back to a buldge bracket bank in an M&A capacity.
-Build a more diverse network of people
-The earlier I get it, the higher the ROI in it will be
I hope this is enough info. When I get my score up, will I have a shot with such limited work experience?
