Bahahaha, now that is one funny comment to *seriously* ponder upon. I have been thinking that way too . But on a more serious note, I've done a couple of these volunteer abroad trips and they are absolutely wonderful. I'd take volunteering abroad and experiencing the country's real culture and hospitality anytime over going as a tourist and getting ripped off by the locals .

I guess one drawback to the volunteer thing is that I get snide remarks ALL THE TIME from coworkers and friends that think that I am using the volunteering experience to boost my application. Like, helloooo, let me at least enjoy my trip to some Amazon jungle and have you be quiet as to why I want to do it :D. In all seriousness though, the trips are so worth it!! So yeah, PM me if you are ever interested in those short term trips ... I know a couple of organizations that won't rip you off to experience life-altering moments. Haha, ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration.

Well, enough with the ramblings. Just thought I'd drop by to this forum. I've been a lurker and occassional poster on the gmat side, but have not ventured out this far. The posts here are intriguing and scary at the same time ... all these 750+ gmatters, talking as if getting those scores are as easy as frying eggs and pappadam (those yummy Indian crackers)

But yeah, I am getting addicted at GMAT club. It has that special aura to it, a sort of inexplicable addiction that keeps drawing me back to its deep, endless bottom wells of knowledge! OK, what I am really saying is that I am deeply appreciative of what you guys have done so far. Shout outs to Rhyme, who seems to be the admission consulting expert in this thread! Ah and to Kryzak too, as we were on the same GMAT boat earlier last week I am definitely going to start participating in this MBA apps forum more!! Fun fun fun.

I wish I had some fun "Ghana" volunteering trips, but other than enjoying a lot of traveling, I never did do any of the stuff that adcoms consider "cool". Thus I'll just tell my story and hope for the best =)

The best way to get some extra ordinary experience: get some money, to go a casino, break the bank, spend a month with to a worthy cause and donate it all them.

You could also try something cool like climbing Mt Everest and talk about the enlightenment you received while at the peak about how futile materialism is and how you're going to change the world after you graduate from Yale

I wish I had some cool stuff to put too

work ex: 4.5 years upon matri

GMAT: 710 (49Q, 38V)

I wanted to start off by thanking all the active '07 ers who have been making life so much easier for us '08 ers with their insight and comments into the whole apping process. I am kinda (very) late in this game, having decided to do an MBA in June of this year. Thus after having studied for just over two months, gave my GMAT on Friday and scored 720 (pretty low compared to what I have been seeing on this site) with a breakdown of Q51 and V47.

I have just over 5 years of work ex in Supply Chain and Logistics Consulting. Have my Under Grad from BITS, Pilani in Information Systems and a dual degree in Management with a CGPA of 9.4/10

Strengths: Supply Chain Consulting (which I have not seen too many people here mention), lots of international exposure, worked with lots of big companies in the SCM space. Sure to get good recos, including from my customers

Weaknesses: Low GMAT score, especially on the verbal section (am hoping for a good AWA to slightlty make-up for it), hardly any XCs (a travelling job and a kid at home and you hardly get time to breathe - thats my excuse anyways, apart from being purely lazy), almost no guidance in the whole apping process except this club (Pls contact me directly if anybody in Dallas or apping to same schools as me)

Target Schools: Wharton, Chicago (am planning to specialize in Mergers & Acquisitions on the Finance side)

Need help with: Currently, only have two schools more or less finalized, although am planning to apply in 4 overall by R2. Am thinking about HBS and Columbia, but am not sure, maybe I should apply in at least one 'safe' school.

I am sorry, I meant Q51 and V37 (I wish it was V47!!!)

Looking at this thread, I am simply stupified. GMAT will no longer be a differentiator. I will throw my hat too in the ring.

Experience - I have a lot of inspiring stories to tell. Though I belong to the dreaded Indian IT pool, I dont think my app has any space to showcase my IT experience.

Schools - Stanford. May be the part time programs in Cal, UCLA, Chicago and of course the super duper Santa Clara university

I guess I come from the "dreaded" IT pool of applicants (5 years of really useless network admin experience).

I've also owned my own cafe in SF (which burnt down in April and I'm fairly certain personal tragedies don't reflect well on applications ).
