Re: Calling Chicago GSB 2008 applicants [#permalink]
I was bored so I went digging on ad411.

21 (R1/15, R2/6) interview invites were sent out to Indians, both domestic & international. The average age was 26.5 and the average GMAT, 747
Only 1 reported admit besides 6 unknowns in R1 from those 15.

19 out of 22 got interviews in R1...so I am betting almost everyone will get one in R2. GSB seems to be interviewing a lot of people this year. Best of luck guys.

Not that I disagree, but I'd hesitate to make direct comparisons between rounds 1 and 2...after speaking w/ several adcoms at the admit reception last week, I guess there's a substantial increase of apps this round, which may mean fewer interviews and/or waitlisted candidates. Which makes it all the more impressive that so many here are getting invited!

Disclaimer: nobody said there were going to be fewer interviews, etc. Just my guess, considering the drastic increase.

Re: Calling Chicago GSB 2008 applicants [#permalink]
Until GSB publishes numbers like everyone else (yes I know there are a few notable other exceptions), I wont believe anything they say in relationship to volume and their rates. Dont they realize that by not publishing stats people seem to think they have a higher admission rate and lower yield than the other UEs. For all we know apps are down this year for them, they can say what they want but until the release numbers its all a sales pitch. I mean who do they think they are by not telling us numbers...HBS

That said, apps probably are up...just playing the devils advocate here and giving those R2 guys more hope.

Re: Calling Chicago GSB 2008 applicants [#permalink]
thanks for adding me to the list :)

i'll share my stats with everyone... based on the few forums i've read, i think this is how it goes.

25 (as of 1/31 :) )/F/Asian American/2.5 WE as an auditor-consultant in Big4 public acct/3.2 GPA in Big10/670 GMAT (47Q, 34V) on 1st attempt... i'm on the low end for GSB.

I applied to Chicago, Columbia, Cornell and Yale in R2. All quant schools, cept Yale for its non-profit rep, and GSB is by far my favorite. I think i rushed through everything because i was in the middle of my "busy season" and it was tough juggling all the client commitments, traveling, GMAT taking and application writing but I was really ready for the transition. After being promoted, it's a logical step, and working 70 hours for months is exhausting. Would love to get in FT fall 2008 but I think i can wait another year too, now knowing how to strengthen my app. PT GSB could also be an option.

I turned in my app 12/31 (left the country to volunteer for 2 weeks in India early Jan) but it didn't go complete until 1/9 or so (my 2nd rec dragged). Still says complete so I don't know what to think but hoping for the best! :)

GOOD LUCK ALL THOSE ON THIS BOARD! Chicago is freezing cold but a great city.

I did some analysis...

So first, lets look carefully at the data.

With that in mind, lets analyze the username length of people applying.

As you can see, longer names are more popular. But what does that mean?

If you plot username legnth against total posts you'll find this:

Clearly the polynomial function can be best described as asymmetric and probably difficult to accurately estimate. The negative correlation suggests that those of you with shorter names are more lazy and post less, and thats probably why you picked a short name in the first place.

Now if we take this data and plot your entries against the number of posts you've made divided by your username length and square it you find this.

Suggesting that mNeo is totally statistically posting more than his fair share. Good on him!

Now if we plot the difference in times you submitted your application to the number of posts we find:

As you can see, there graph is really kind of nuts. I think it says a lot.

Finally based on this data we can estimate the hot admit zone

If one intends to climb into the hot admit zone. you have to traverse the lillifores steps and write proper essays. This can be seen in the below graph.

Excited yet? These guys are:

Now if you plot the MOON PHASE AGAINST INTERVIEW INVITES, YOU GET TIHS INSANELY STARTLIN GRAPH:

HOLY !@!! DO YOU SEE IT??

INTERVIEW INVITES CORRELATE WITH THE PHASE OF DA MOON

And just look at the regression !!

Amazing stuff.

Conclusion: The best predictor of an interview invite is the moon's phase on the day you submitted!

(Ok, now i need to go study)

I don't know what the GSB is pumping into its classrooms' aircon vents, but I'm sure I want a whiff of it too. :punk
