Must you bring that up.

Every time I read that, I realize that my interview probably isn't a big indicator of the strength of my app or my chances at GSB. :(

Chicago only interview 60% of the applicants

Yea, I am a stat freak like that...engineering does that to me
:)
Goodluck on your interview man.

Seems like a large bulk of the invites have went out given that the dates for on-campus interviews are rapidly approaching. The outlook isn't bright for those without an invite (including me).

i don't believe this is correct. i just scheduled my interview and there were plenty of spots still open (a surprisingly large number, in fact).

Considering Chicago only interview 60% of the applicants.

Source?

% interviewed on admissions411 is 51%, but i bet that number is skewed upward since the more "hardcore" applicants (stronger applicants?) are more likely to visit 411. i suspect the "real" number is lower, perhaps closer to 40-45%, though i could be wrong. 60% for an acceptance rate close to 20% (perhaps even lower this year if apps are up 40%) seems really high.

I think Rose has gone on record to say that they interview about 50-60% of their applicants. Also- the 51% on 411 is for ALL applicants (including the incomplete R2). In R1, 71% of 411 applicants were interviewed- which is pretty high.

wow, if true, that is surprising. so say they interview 60%, and accept about 20% (overall). an interview is only a 1/3rd chance of being admitted? does that imply that chicago weights the interview process more heavily than other, similar schools? if not, why would they interview so many people? (for ex. i read earlier today from a super credible internet message board (ha?) that wharton historically has interviewed ~40% and accepted 40-50% of these people).

Yeah its pretty much implied that Kellogg (which interviews everyone) and Chicago (60%) put a good amount of emphasis on the interivews. So we'll see our numbers drop like flies once the interviews are over :(

I disagree with extrapolating percentages year over year. If it was fact that 60% were interviewed last year with approx. 25% admit. I doubt admissions based on the typical yield would increase the number interviews. I believe the number of interviews and admittances are in absolute terms equivalent. This year since the general concensus is application volume is up then most likely the % interview has decreased. The only unknown variable is whether application volume is up due to more individuals applying or more applications per individual. It is most likely predominantly the former. I would guess that everyone going for an interview has roughly a 1 in 2 shot of being accepted.

Actually, I disagree. Because a lot of Kellogg interviews are alumni, the result varies vastly based on the individual opinions, resulting in difficult assessment from adcom stand point. Unlike MIT, who conducts interview solely by an admission member, I felt that the assessment is more accurate; thus, weighted more.

1 in 2 sounds really good, but I think the numbers are lower than that. It may be better to look at absolute numbers instead of %. It could be a lower % are interviewed this round due to increased applications, but compared to last year's numbers, roughly the same number of people are interviewed. I think looking at % would just give a messy view of things. Unfortunately though, we don't have the absolute numbers.

Here's my profile. Thought, it might be pertinent to share it for the benefit of others especially, "IT" applicants.
27/Male/Indian/Engineer/IT/2 Yrs(India)+4 Yrs (USA) at matriculation

I know, the four dreaded words are all there! Guess the essays/Presentation helped my cause!

I've scheduled an on-campus interview for Saturday the 16th of Feb at noon. Hope to meet some of ya folks then.
Needless to say, I made the "on-campus" decision after a LOT of contemplation, discussing with Avi about his experience et al.

I have to now get equipped; winter clothes, LA to Chi tickets and of course interview prep.

Any and all tips for the on campus interview are welcome!
