Random story: Just saw the news that Mr. Ross is becoming co-owner of the Miami Dolphins. He must have a lot of $$ to burn.

:) this is no news Detroit has been a very miserable city for years, but don't worry Ross is not in Detroit, and Ann Arbor is much much much better

Yes, I know that Ross is in Ann Arbor,

But a lot of companies coming to recruit at Ross natrually are coming from Detroit. Considering the close relations of Ross with automobile industry the chances ending up with job in Detroit is much higher than anywhere else. So do want to live in not only in miserable, but the most (!) miserable city in the country after investing 2 valuable years of your life and tons of money?

Couple of points:

I dont think Ross places a lot of people in Detroit- it does in the mid-west. I believe most Ross alums end up in Chicago.

Chicago, New York and LA are also in the top 10 on that list. So does that mean you are not willing to work in Chicago or New York or LA either?

Their criteria seems to factor in commute time, crime and other factors that are bound to be found in any major city. If you are going by these, then you might want to go to a school in the middle of nowhere :)

Ross is not a small local school that caters in large part to its nearby big (somewhat at that) city. UofM is a national brand and as for Ross, Chicago Midwest and East Coast are the main influence areas. Detroit will rank after those and probably even after the West Coast.

Detroit's demise started 10-15 years ago and has been the worst for the last 5-6. I have friends living there whom I see couple of times a year. The housing and job market is terrible due to the challenges to the auto industry. But this is no news. It has been this way for a while. It is applicable to state of Michigan in general. Flint anyone???

The gist of the matter is, its impact on Ross is minimal. If the city was booming, that would have been a welcome plus, but as is, it's a neutral factor rather than a negative one. Just like in stocks; the old news is already reflected into the price (in this case pull & reputation).

My 2 cents...

Mine is the perspective of person living outside of US. I am more than glad to hear that the influence of bad reputation of Detroit to Ross is not much as I assumed.

Beyond some contributions to the research institutes, the auto industry(& its decline) hasn't had much impact on Ross in the past few years. The school has been trying to refute this misconception every info session & chat.

$550 million to burn. That's a lot of money, but let's just say he's buying low.

Let's go Fins!

With all the interviews done (for the people who were already invited) , it looks like this thread will temporarily 'die' over the next 2 weeks.
