Re: INSEAD September 2011 intake waitlist [#permalink]
I am a R1 wait-lister myself and I've been following this thread. I should rephrase my sentence. Most of the R1 wait listers who have gotten the offer got them right after the R1 deposit deadline prior to R2 interview notification. Sorry for the confusion.

From reading different forums, I gathered that INSEAD's wait-list is short and you are basically qualified for the program. They are managing the number of people so they don't have too many in the similar nationality, background, etc.

jwangyue, i believe your are getting something wrong here, because R2 interview notifications came by 14th Jan, while R1 deposit deadlien was close to 20th Jan.

What I believe is, that if R2 waitlisters have to wait till R3 interview calls are announced, it'll be about 20th April when things start moving.

On the other hand, if some people will move in after next deposit date, we'll see some activity around 30th March. Another factor that plays in here is that LBS (a very close INSEAD contender) will announce R2 final list by 28th March, when a few people might decline/withdraw their INSEAD admits (some of whom may have asked for deposit date extensions). And hence a more likely movement time would be around 5th April.

Overall, I'm quite pessimistic and not expecting any movement for myself before end-April, if any.

Apologies for getting it wrong. It is a week after the R1 deposit deadline.

Indian figure should increase further. I think it will go upto 40+. Still must wait for other R2 admits to register on MBA connect. I cannot imagine only 3 Indians to be selected in R2. I am guessing it will be better to check MBA Connect after a week to get a better picture. In the meanwhile, I am still hoping for the adcom to make some movement by end of this month.

Hi All!

Wait-listed R2... French/31/700/8year in various (heavy) industries in France and Australia

I applied only to INSEAD, mainly because I was dreaming of that school for many years, and applied just now when I felt ready for it.
Sure it is hard to be wait-listed: I was so much into it. Really believed in it and I had my next months all planned in my head for this... now, being wait-listed, and probably many of you feel the same, I must consider first the possibility that I won't make it, and re-assess the situation.

That leads to my question: what other MBA would you consider? If I don't get INSEAD, I still want the MBA experience, and I will be looking for similar schools, ie.: wide international exposure, top tier MBA, entrepreneurship and strong human connections (network quality and life beside school context to make friends).
I haven't much looked at it before, but I come to consider 2 spanish MBAs: IESE and IE...

What are your MBA alternatives? For those who just applied to INSEAD, are you looking now at other MBAs? Anyone to comment on those 2 MBAs?

Don't get me wrong: I still want INSEAD badly! (many other frogs wait-listed out there? I guess competition will be hard for us!)

Hi all!
This forum has been great so far. Thank you all for your advice and for having shared your experience.
R2 applicant here and waitlisted. I am from sub-Saharan Africa with about 10 y International experience.
Could someone please tell me how many sub-Saharan African are on MBA connect?

Hi BeagleDondon!

As you can imagine, the age frequency distribution within the class is somewhat a Gaussian distribution. And if you are more than 32yo, your age is about 3 times the standard deviation. So within a class of 500 with an average of about 28 or 29, there are less than 50 guys who are 32 or more ( and I do not take into account other parameters such as nationality, prof background etc...). All in all, less than 50 guys (with 32yo or more) are to be selected around the world throughout 3 rounds. So being on the waitlist is really an outstanding achievement. But we have to wait again for about two months, hoping that there will be no applicant with 32yo or more in R3, or some withdraws.
The most important thing, I think, is using this experience to learn more from oneself and others. Being on the waitlist is also a reward.
Good luck guys!

If you want a European MBA, then you should consider the following as well:
1- LBS: 2-yr, great experience location and exposure... and great career placement
2- IMD: 11 months, very good placements, intensive MBA program, low flexibility
3- IESE: 2-yr, expensive tuition, still better reputed than IE. Barcelona location is amazing!
4- IE: 13 months, gaining lots of reputation, but their placements are still "weak" as compared to other top schools
5- Oxford: 1-yr, brand name

All of these schools offer your criteria: "wide international exposure, top tier MBA, entrepreneurship and strong human connections", but u should also consider the 1-year v/s. 2-year MBA's and where do u wanna work after graduation.

Good Luck (i'm also an INSEAD W/L)

Hi all,

According to my calculations, starting form the assumption that only the guys that were active during the admission process on the insead sept intake thread (not me)should be taken into accont as is more likely that they will report wheter reject, admission or waitlist decisions, it seems that 50% of those interviewed got in and 10% precent of those were waitlisted.

I think that INSEAD goes with +/- 5% error in their yield.
