Re: IMD 2012 - Calling All Applicants [#permalink]
Just a quick update before i go to bed. We were 8 for this interview day. 2 russians, 2 spaniards, 1 italian, 1 greek, 1 singapourian and myself. It was 9 hours quite intense where you feel you are judged all the time. But at the end of the day, they should not eliminate more than half. And i hope to be in the right part. I ll describe the day a bit more later. Now i just have to wait for the call!

So you think they should leave out 3 of us? Ay ay ...

Also you forgot to comment that maybe we'll be lucky enough to get the news (good or bad) in seven days instead of ten, which would be an extraordinary measure.

Good luck for those having interviews on Tuesday or Friday.

Hi everyone.
Looks like I did the assessment day together with Mertvye and IMD2012T :)

I'm Russian, 29.
MSc. in Economics and Management + Ph.D in Economics (both in Russia)
GMAT 700
8 years of experience in Russian Oil&Gas (mostly Strategy and Business Development). Never worked overseas, but dealed with international projects a lot.

I am re-applicant. Had the first trial in 2009 (1st round as well), was put on a wait list after an interview in March, and rejected finally in October. In 2009 5 people out of 8 were accepted. This time it may be less, because we had people of the same nationalities in the room...

So, waiting for the call...

Сколько лет сколько зим! :-D

Did they mention if there were more Russians/Spaniards in other interview days?

The only thing I remember is that there will be at least 2 days more this week and there should be 4 japaneses.

Bye.

Hi guys,
I am planning to apply in Round 3,
and I am also Russian )))
this fact frightened me a lot, because thre are so many of us.

Actually I was thinking about Round 2,
but need to retake GMAT (620),
it is really strange that when I wrote to the "access you chanses",
adcom told that 620 is totally OK, and I should aply.

Do you have any news?

my profile:
Female/28 y/Gmat 620/ GPA 3,8/ Bachelor of science Maryland University/ 7 years in Sales and Marketing in International company FMCG

I had 650 first time and decided to re-take it (IMD average is 670). I did it between submitting an application and the interview, scored 700.
I think that IMD is not the school which look at GMAT much, but it would be better if you try to increase the point - at least it will help you demostrate that you are able to increase your performance.

Taking into account that you're female and all business schools want to have as students as many women as possible it makes sense.

In addition, one of the people I met the other day had 640 (and he was a man).

From my own experience GMAT is not very useful.

But the fact that you're Russian could be an issue if in this intake two (or more) Russians were admitted.

So, my recommendation is to apply in R2 instead of waiting to R3!

They will tell you to redo GMAT if they want to round up their statistics, which other schools do.

hm... it makes sense,
I didnt think that it is possible (to retake it after application),
but still there is no guarantee that I will be invited to the interview.

I have 710 and I was not invited to LBS or INSEAD while other with 680 or less were...

GMAT is just a parameter and improving it won't give the security that you'll get to the interview.

Do you have international outlook/experience? Work Experience? Good undergrad?...

Assume you have them because IMD told you so, and they tell the truth about it: submit your application, but not a guarantee to be invited to interview.

On the other hand, if you're applying to INSEAD you should know that they care much more about GMAT and so you should be above percentile 70 in verbal and maths.

For IMD 620 is not the lowest GMAT, at least it wasn't when this data was collected:

I believe, expected GMAT score is based on each individual's background. Like in my case being an Indian, Male, engineer, I would be expected a fairly high GMAT score to be competetive in the applicant pool but this might not be true for someone from a different demographic or with some other educational background.

Having said that, I myself am confused as to what would be a comfirtable GMAT score. As to what other factors could help someone make his/her profile stronger in case of a lower GMAT score like my experience in Avionics industry. I am planning to apply to IMD as well but have a low GMAT (640) so want to retake it before applying but that means waiting for June deadline (if not later) .... Dont know whats better - apply early with lower GMAT or late with a higher score (hopefully) .....

mertvye is right - better apply in the 2nd round, because there were already at least 4 applicants from Russia in the first one...

To complete my profile, i got 750 at the GMAT test.
And I advice anyone to apply as early as possible. It also seems that for non European it could be hard to get a Shengen visa in only 2-3 months if they are accepted at R4.
Menehn what is your nationality ?

Wow, your GMAT score is excellent! I'm quite sad about my score, i think that I can do it much better... but want to submit in R2 so have no time to retake it. Btw, thanks for your experience sharing for the interview day !

My nationality is Vietnamese, but I'm applying from France where I'm living now.

I don't think GMAT is very important for IMD. A fair score is enough. Professionnal and International Experience are more valuable.
For my GMAT, i followed a 20h Kaplan course online and it went from 610 to 750. For GMAT, studying is key. It s a very logical test. But you need a lot of practice.
I think it s easier to get in as a Vietnamese than as a French.
