Hi All,
I will be applying this fall to MBA programs and I would love a good profile evaluation in order to help finalize the schools I will be applying to. Here's my background:
Profile: age 26, white, male, born and raised in the U.S.A, 650 GMAT (taking again before the application process).
Education: 3.8/4.0, BBA Finance and Operations management, Minors in Econ and Information Technology, Honors Program graduate
Work Exp: Member of 2 year Finance Leadership Development Program at Fortune 100 company. Worked mostly in a Financial Planning & Analysis role. Held positions in both Massachusetts and California. Thereafter was promoted and worked for 1 year as a financial analyst within Manufacturing/Operations in a very visible role. I have since left the company to go work for a startup in an operations/strategy/Biz Dev type role.
ECs: volunteer as a mentor/tutor with children from local school. Have done this for the past 2 years. Have also been a marathon runner for the past 2 years. Was successful in doing a couple of fundraisers for causes that are close to me. Also, I was active in a couple clubs during my college days (no leadership role).
MBA goal: I would like to get back into a startup environment and continue working with startups in an operational role, or perhaps even start my own company. My long term goal is to move into a more of a venture capital role, or work in strategy for an established tech company.
So as for my target schools - the Texas and UNC programs have been of interest to me as I seem to fit into their student profile and the programs suit me very well as they have strong entrepreneurial programs and good ties to the technology, venture capital, and startup community (esp. Texas). I am from the northeast and in the case I don't get into either of these (or decide I'd like to continue living around here) I was going to add Boston University and Babson to my list as well, although I'm not sure either would truly qualify as a safety for me. I would also like to apply to a reach and think that Berkeley Haas could be a reasonable shot if I am able to improve my GMAT closer to the 700 range. Ideally I'd like to be located either in the bay area or boston post-grad, so another question would be if the recruitment at Texas or UNC is too regionally focused to make getting a job on either coast a reasonable expectation.
I appreciate any feedback you could give me!
