Had a question about the accomplishments and the setbacks essays... which is recommended among the following for arranging the individual stories within the essays?
  1. In chronological order
  2. In reverse-chronological order
  3. According to importance
  4. In any order

Start with a strong accomplishment / your most important accomplishment. Then mix it up between professional / non-professional. Other than that, order really doesn't matter.

Re: HBS 2+2 2014 - Calling All Applicants (Class of 2016) [#permalink]
Just turned 20 last month...Still got 2 years to build my profile. My internships are strong (worked in a team of 8 ppl on a 80 million dollar project, second internship, i was a junior project engineer); started my own charity: https://www.alamcharity.com over the summer. Once I go to bangladesh this winter and register my charity, I will start holding events to fund raise and so on...I also joined clubs this year, let see how those go.

GPA - bad first year due to personal reasons but I will pull it up in the remaining three years.

GMAT - I preped over the summer for 2 months. i am around the 650 level but I am confident I can get it to 750 with persistence.

have you gotten into all three of thoes schools? wow

Well I took the GMAT today and ended up with an abysmal 690 Q:47 V:37 so my guess is that it would be a waste of time to submit an app with that score. I guess my options are then to wait to see how I do on the GRE (9/19), retest the GMAT and apply R2, or just give it up. The 3rd option isn't for me so looks like its time to buckle down for the GRE. My prep for the GMAT fell into complete crap and I studied maybe a week total in the 2 months I had, but managed to raise my score from 600 -> 690 with the little scattered prep I did. Best of luck to the R1 applicants, looks like I wont be joining you

Thank you for the advice, re-reading my post I realize I seem a lot more careless about this than I really am. My application to this program will actually be my main focus until it's finished up and submitted. I'll go ahead and share my profile if anyone feels like commenting:

GMAT:
Currently prepping for first test (9/3/11)

Academics:
B.S. Chemical Engineering with a minor in Chemistry from a top 20 U.S. engineering school
GPA - 3.34/4.0 as of now with 1 semester left, strong upward trend (2.3 -> 3.34); 3.7 major GPA

Internships:
1. Process Engineering internship with a large global chemical and pharmaceutical company. Fortune 200
2. Process Engineer in chemicals manufacturing (designed and led $200k+ project to submission to business unit leader)
3. Process Engineer at an oil refinery for the #1/#2 (depending on the year) largest private company in the U.S.

Positions of Responsibility:
1. Founding CFO of the university's entrepreneurship society
2. Vice President of the school's chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers
3. Previously Junior class representative for AIChE

Extra Curricular Stuff:
1. Summer research in metabolic engineering lab
2. 1.5 years in nanomaterials lab
3. Will be working with the "new ventures" group in the Office of Technology Commercialization during the upcoming semester evaluating university technologies for potential start-ups.

Hoping to get strong letters from my supervisor this summer as well as the head of the Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship at my university. I'll be crossing my fingers that my application lines up with what HBS is looking for.

Good stats. GMAT score is decent but low especially because you don't have a >3.5 GPA.

Don't rush application. Don't try to squeeze it in for Rd1. Rd1 has higher % acceptance because those people have their stuff together. Not because HBS likes early applicants. Don't play that probability game.

I think for 2+2 program there will be no difference between R1 and other rounds, according to the 2+2 info session. But if there are more people applying in R1, would they take the same number of candidates, or would they maintain the same %? What do you think?

our popular odds of YOU getting IN to HBS series in Poets and Quants.

He does so with a sense of irreverence, wit and intelligence that makes his assessments compelling and insightful reading. The story became so popular that we turned it into a weekly series.

I'm submitting R1. I'm having a terrible time on my essays, the hardest part is getting started. My recommendations are all set and everything else is done, though.
