Done interviewing!

Solb22: All of us had two people in the interview room - an interviewer and an observer.

Not much of curveball questions. Personality related, application specific questions. Lunch at Spangler was great. Met a few other awesome people. :)

Well, good luck! It's out of your hands now... how do you think you did in your interview?

whiplash2411, nice to hear that you are done with the interview! would you mind sharing more about the experience? specifically did you expect there'd be an observer? did he/she sit with the interviewer or far away at the corner of the room? do you think he/she was there to be part of the evaluating process or just receiving interviewing training?....
also, would you care to share some of the questions they asked?

Thanks!

I think I did pretty okay, overall. The interview was very conversational. It flowed pretty well. Most of the questions were pretty application specific to an extent, yes. She asked me what I did this summer, the previous summer and so on and had follow up questions to the answers I gave. Then it was about my international experiences, proudest moments, some weaknesses/critiques and a few personal questions. I can't really delve too much into detail because they were pretty application specific. But I'd say go prepared with your goals, where the MBA fits in with the goals and know your application really well.

The observer was also taking notes. I talked to both of them though the observer didn't ask any questions.

thanks for sharing! sounds like you nailed the interview. lol. K i think it makes sense for them to ask lots of application-specific questions. what about any specific 2+2 related questions? like why 2+2, what would you do if you don't get into 2+2?

very interesting to hear that the observer is also taking notes. i think it's fair to say that both people will have a saying in your interview performance. Were you bothered by them constant taking notes?(were they looking down and taking notes most of the time, or did they wait till you are a few seconds into the question and then start taking notes? Would you say if there was sufficient and comfortable eye-contact??

Again, thanks for your insight!

Lol. So much detail.

No specific 2+2 related questions. The only question I got about the program was in context when she asked me where an MBA fit in with my goals. The interviewer was taking a lot of notes the first few questions and then after a while slowed down, I guess. I don't really remember too much and I definitely tried not to let anything bother me - the 30 minutes literally FLEW by. Before I knew it, I was done and she was telling me to have a good day.

Are you an applicant for this round? Don't freak out so much. The interview was really not meant to be some kind of pressure test, I think they just wanted to put a face to the application and get to know you personally.

Thank you whiplash2411! It seems like you are a very strong candidate and I wish you the best of luck! :)

I have my interview next week, and mine is 1:30 (after lunch)
Do you know if after-lunch interviewees can also go to Spangler for lunch to join the 2+2 people? I'd like to know how the lunch is organized, and whether we get to talk to any current MBA students, etc.

Ok so there weren't any MBA students when I went because the term hasn't begun yet. The lunch in Spangler is with members of the admissions office and you can first stop at Dillon house, pick up your interview folder (which has a coupon do lunch at Spangler) and then have lunch at Spangler between 12:30-1:30, I think.

It's a very informal lunch session. We mainly just chatted with people. There's also information sessions available recorded on like iPods, if I remember correctly.

Thank you for your reply.
This is all very helpful. I guess it's only natural that the people there would be the admissions officers and the applicants. Although I would be a little bit nervous to have lunch with them before getting interviewed. Once again, thank you and let's hope we can perhaps see each other as HBS Class of 2016! :)

pgcokie: No problem!

solb22: Sure. I'm alternating between feeling happy that I only have to wait for a week and feeling super nervous that there's only one week left. Dunno. Trying to prepare myself for the worst, lol.
