Hi Alex,
Thanks in advance for your help.
Profile: White/male/ 24 yrs old
Education: BS in journalism, minor in economics from state school, 3.69/4.0 GPA
Work experience: Professional journalist covering various public sector institutions and private companies in both large and small cities (Chicago and Youngstown, Ohio)
GMAT Score: Aiming to take in August, but scored 580 on practice exam with zero studying. Aiming to be in 650-700 range.
Extracurricular activities: Editor of college newspaper that was named best in state of Ohio under my leadership; launched new website for said newspaper. Student recruitment ambassador at state university. Various community service activities.
Post MBA plans: Financial analysis
Concerns/Questions: My biggest concern is obviously my lack of work experience related to business; however, I have covered extensively the financial workings of various municipalities and worked at a trade magazine analyzing the inner workings of the beverage industry. I am looking to change gears to get out of journalism and pursue a career in financial analysis.
What type of schools should I be targeting? Frankly, I'm not terribly mobile, so my top choice is actually Ohio State's Fisher School of Business, which is nearby and a fairly reputable program. Is that realistic? If I was more mobile, what other schools would you consider in my sweet spot?
Thanks.
