Data Insights (DI) Butler 2024 [ Date: 23-Feb-2023]

Team A has participated in the last four Hockey World Cups. In each tournament, Team A played 3 matches in the league stage. The details of the goals conceded and goals scored in the league stage of each tournament is as given in the chart above. ‘Goals FOR’ gives the number of goals scored by team A and  ‘Goals AGAINST ’ gives the number of goals conceded by it.

The year in which team A must have lost at least one of its league matches is [Dropdown Placeholder #1], while, in the four world cups, the average goal scored per league match is [Dropdown Placeholder #2] the average goal conceded per league match .

chetan2u Apart from 2014, Isn't it also possible to lose a match in 2022 ? 1st game - (1,2) , 2nd game (1,0) and 3rd game (1,0) ?

You are correct. It is possible to lose a match in 2022 as well. But we cannot be sure about that.
It can also be (1,0), (1,1), (1,1) - no losses in this combination.

Question asks for a year where we can confidently say team MUST have lost at least 1 match. This is possible only in 2014.

Aryaa03, correctly explained above.

The DI requires reading/scanning each question in a way that you don’t miss any important information and at the same time do it fast enough not to be looking for time later.

You could go fast in the Paras as such but when it comes to the questions and the portions related you have to be very careful.

How is average won/conceded per league match same? 14/ no of matches won and 14/no of matches conceded could be different

I got it correct and my reasoning was:
- For the first drop down --> search for the year where light blue bar (GOALS FOR) was less than the other dark blue bar = 2014
- For the second drop down to verify that the light blue bars (GOALS FOR) were at least equal to the dark blue bars (GOALS AGAINST/CONCEDED) = SAME AS

The year in which team A must have lost at least one of its league matches is [2014],

=> Must be the year when total goals AGAINST > goals FOR
=> 2014

while, in the four world cups, the average goal scored per league match is [same as] the average goal conceded per league match.

Total goals FOR = 6 + 2 + 3 + 3 = 14
Toal goals AGAINST = 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 = 14

=> Same total

=> Same Avg.

Hi  - The question stem says "must have lost atleast 1 game". In 2022 or 2018 as well, there are possibilities of losing a match or a tie, but the "must" condition is fulfilled in 2014 only as per the chart. wrote:

The question does not mention that there is no possibility of draw.

What if in 2014 A lost 2 matches (1-2,1-2) and third match is draw. If that's the case answer should be 'cannot be determined'. Shouldn't it?

Question asks in which year team A lost at least 1 match, so A could have lost 1 match or 2 match or 3 matches.
As in your example, A lost two matches in 2014, so valid.

I hope you are not confusing with at least one WIN.
