Re: The victories of the Canadian hockey teams were marked not so much by [#permalink]
The victories of the Canadian hockey teams were marked not so much by their brute effort as it was by their strategic planning.

(A) as it was by( use of it is wrong)
(B) and also by(use of and is not correct)
(C) as by(correct)
(D) and equally by(use of and is not correct)
(E) as there was(use of there was wrong)by will maintain the parallelism
So much as is correct

Choice C is correct

Thanks

MANHATTAN REVIEW OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

The idiomatic expressions using ‘as’ come up again and again on the GMAT. Even if you did not want to make the sentence more efficient and have correct as/as parallel structure, you could immediately eliminate choice A. It uses the word ‘was’ which should be plural were because it refers to victories. Choices B, D and E are clearly wrong as well. The correct expression is ‘not so much by....as by’. Choice C is the correct answer. It has parallel structure and is efficient.
