To atleast get 700 in GMAT

I'll like your thoughts around what's the cut off to get 700 or above on GMAT. I know its subjective, however, any tentative numbers? I havent considered experimental questions for now.

Note : below numbers are what I've noticed on the GMAT Preps.

Number of questions :

Quant -
PS : 17-20 questions
DS : 17-18 questions

Verbal -
SC : 14-16
CR : 11-14
RC : 11-14

I think to get 700 or above, you need to atleast get the below correct

Quant -
PS : 12-16/17-20
DS : 10-12/17-18

Verbal -
SC : 9-12/14-16
CR : 9-11/11-14
RC : 9-12/11-14

It depends on the "weight" of the question really. If you are wrong in the easier question, it will hurt your score. If you are wrong on the harder question, not so much.

Agreed, besides there are couple of other factors. But, I'm just looking at numbers - approximate.

I am also watching this thread. Probably you are right on quant things ... but dont know abt verbal. But we all know that this is not totally correct way to measure the score but approx u may count/calculate.


How is your preparation going Pawan?

You're right, this is by no means an accurate way to ascertain your score. But, atleast this might just give you a rough idea.

I started this because after every GMATPrep I'll like to gauge where I am and never really understood the scoring pattern or the algorithm (who has!).

My preparation is not going as planned (nothing strange :) ). I'm trying to improve my CR & RC score.

One thing that helped me to raise my level steadily one after another CAT practice exam -

If my level was at 650, then I accepted that I was comfortable with all questions with levels below 650. So i tried my best to practice questions slightly above 650. (For example, MGMAT question level 600-700 - completed all of them, practiced by section first then moved onto 700-800 questions after testing myself again)

CAT will find the appropriate skill level. therefore, if you can't master 600-700 level questions first, there's no point of practicing 700-800 level questions since in the real exam, you will constantly get them wrong at this level.
