Find : $$3x^2 + 2x – 1$$ =?

(1) (x + 1)(3x + 1) = 0
=> either x+1 = 0 or 3x+1 =0 => $$x= -1$$ or $$x= -1/3$$
Insufficient

(2) $$(x + 1)^2$$ = 0
=> x+1 = => $$x=-1$$

By putting value of x in equation => $$3x^2 + 2x – 1 = 3(-1)^2+2(-1)-1 = 3-2-1 =0$$

Sufficient

(1) (x + 1)(3x + 1) = 0
(2) (x + 1)^2 = 0

Stmnt 1 ==> (x+1)(3x+1)=0 implies x=-1 or x=-1/3 . 2 values of x gives 2 different ans. soo insufficient

Stmnt2 ==> x+1^2=0 implies x=-1 . So 3-2-1=0 . Sufficient.
