The equation that can be formed is:

3x-18=26-x
or, 4x=44
or, x=11.

To solve such problems, pay attention while you read question. Here, some of us might subtract 26 from x. Ex. 3x-18=x-26 which will lead to answer -4, which is wrong. In question, it has been clearly said to subtract x from 26. In maths, from always comes first.

I hope this helps.

Very well explained MruDe! Thank you! I misinterpreted "subtracting x from 26" as (x-26). I was soo sure the OA is wrong until I say your explanation. Now I am slapping myself!

Gotta be careful!!

When x is multiplied by 3, the result is 18 more than the result of subtracting x from 26.
Translating the colored text, we get: 3x and 26 - x

For many, the tricky part is dealing with "the result is 18 more than"
We know that 3x is 18 more than 26 - x
Our goal is to create an EQUATION. How do we do this?
Since 3x is 18 more than 26 - x, we can make the two quantities equal by EITHER subtracting 18 from 3x OR adding 18 to 26 - x
Let's do the latter.

We get: 3x = 26 - x + 18
Simplify: 3x = 44 - x
Add x to both sides: 4x = 44
Solve: x = 11

$$x*3 - 18 = 26 - x$$

Or, $$3x + x = 44$$

Or, $$4x = 44$$

Or, $$x = 11$$

Hence, the correct answer must be (C) 11
