x, y and z are positive. If x percent of y is z [#permalink]

the question is to compute

\(\frac{x^2}{100}*\frac{1}{10}\)

according to the question:

(i) \(\frac{x}{100}y=z\)

(ii)\(\frac{z}{100}x=y\)

from (i) and (ii):

\(\frac{\left(\frac{x}{100}y\right)}{100}x=y \implies \frac{x^2}{100} = 100\)

\(\therefore \frac{x^2}{100}*\frac{1}{10} = 100 * \frac{1}{10} = 10\)

E) 100

\(x\) percent of \(y\) is \(z\) translates to \(\frac{x}{100} * y = z\) -> \(xy = 100z\)

Similarly, \(z\) percent of \(x\) is \(y\). This translates to \(\frac{z}{100} * x = y\) -> \(xz = 100y\)

This is only possible when x=100 and y=z.

Therefore, \(x^2\) percent is 10000th percent of \(\frac{1}{10}\), which is \(\frac{10000}{100} * \frac{1}{10}\) = 10(Option D)

This is how i solved.

1) we know x/100*y = z ( 1............ )
We can aslo write this as xy/100 = z

2) We also know that z/100*x = y ( 2..... )'
We can write this as zx/100= y

Now substitute the value of z from 1st equation into the 2nd equation to get the value of x^2
ie xy/100*x/100=y
ie (x^2)*y/(100^2)=y
ie x^2=y*(100^2)/y
or x^2=100^2

now we are asked what is x^2 %of 1/10
ie (x^2)/100*1/10=?
ie (100^2)/100*1/10=?
so we get 100/10=10

Answer is (D) 10

x/100*y=z --> xy=100z

z/100*x=y --> xz=100y

x^2zy=10^4zy

x^2=10^4

x^2/100*1/10=10

x%y=z & z%x=y......... therefore y=z
& x/100 = 1 ..... x=100

x^2% * 1/10
= 100 * 100
100 * 10
= 10

1. [xy][/100] = z

2. [zx][/100] = y

Equate values of z/y

x square = 10000

Required value = [x square][/100*10] = 10
