A motor pool has 300 vehicles of which 30 percent are trucks. 20 percent of all the vehicles in the motor pool are diesel, including 15 trucks. What percent of the motor pool is composed of vehicles that are neither trucks nor diesel?

A. 165%
B. 90%
C. 65%
D. 55%
E. 10%

Total vehicles = 300
Number of Trucks = 90
Number of diesel vehicles = 60

Number of diesel trucks = 15
Number of non diesel trucks = 75

Vehicles that are neither trucks nor diesel = 300 - (trucks) - (diesel vehicles) + (diesel trucks)
We are adding diesel trucks, because the number would be contained in both trucks and diesel vehicles.

Therefore, Vehicles that are neither trucks nor diesel = 300 - 90 - 60 + 15 = 165
% of Vehicles that are neither trucks nor diesel = (165/300)*100 = 55% (Option D)

We see that there are 300 x 0.3 = 90 trucks.

Also, that 0.2 x 300 = 60 are diesel.

We can use the formula:

Total = Trucks + Diesel - Both + Neither

300 = 90 + 60 - 15 + N

300 = 135 + N

165 = N

Since 165/300 = 0.55, we see that 55% of the vehicles are neither trucks nor diesel.
