Hey, charan2943

Thank you for your post!

Firstly, your profile is very diverse, and I don't think diversity is the specific issue here!

Coming to your profile, I would back your UG and PG percentage with additional courses you have done, any extra certifications, or something that would help the adcom understand your academic prowess. This could be one of the reason for rejection, you need to address it well in your Business school essays and interview.

Your Work experience is great, and with a tenure that long, you must have ample leadership examples, instances where you guided the team in a tight situation, and any awards won in your professional career. Your experience, along with your ECAs, can be your biggest asset. Business schools value applicants who can take initiative and are good team players, which can be very well highlighted through team sports, projects, and group assignments!

Also, with 8+ years of experience, you can definitely target top-tier B-schools. However, to help you better, I need to understand your post-MBA goals, why an MBA from a particular B-school will help you, and how well the school values are incorporated into your profile. Your interview debrief will also be essential. I would also like to know very minuscule points that you think might affect your chances. I am positive that with a stellar profile like yours, some adjustments in the representation of your profile aspects will get the job done!

I hope this helps! :)

Cheers!

@charan2943 An INSEAD MBA may be a long shot due to your age and India focus. However, I highly recommend applying to the PGPs at IIM A and IIM B (if you still fit IIM B's work experience eligibility criterion). You may reach out for a candid discussion. I have helped doctors on the upper end of the age spectrum get into top Indian B-schools.

Best wishes

Dear charan2943,

Thanks for writing in.

We do not think that the diversity in your profile is an issue because there are plenty of solid talking points; besides, you did have an interview invite and that could not have been possible had the Committee not seen merit in your candidature.

It would be worth understanding how the interview went and what your proposed career goals were (of course, how feasible the goals were is an important aspect to understand, as well).

In short, there is nothing wrong with your profile; there is plenty of good; how well you were able to talk about your case during the interview is what needs to be understood.

All the best!

Hi!

For Insead, we need to submit 2 lors. So I’ll be using my last company Managers (manager and senior manager) for the same.
Can the projects be the same for both LORs or do I need to think of new projects I have worked on?

Please suggest here!

Is it necessary to submit LOR from the current manager? Can I send recommendation from manager from my previous organisation and not the current one?

how much of a difference does R1 vs R2 (Jan’25 intake) create ? I am an indian applicant. I am almost done with the R1 application but would need a couple of more days to refine it to a satisfactory level. So I was thinking of pushing it to early R2.

Hi avi10,

the short answer is that, usually, it does not make that much of a difference.

R1 and R2 tend to behave very similarly when it comes to admissions. R3-R4 is a different story, more so for over-represented backgrounds/nationalities.

My advice is that it is better to submit a strong R2 application than a so-so R1 application.

However, considering that the R1 deadline is still 3 days away, in principle, there should be time for you to refine your application. I personally work with applicants in your same situation every round.

Feel free to email me at alex@arleeconsulting.com for a chat.

Warm regards

avi10 - Officially, INSEAD maintains that each round is equally competitive, though Rounds 1/2/3 typically receive more applications than R4 (thus leading to more seats being allocated in R1/2/3 than R4).

In practice, R1 and R2 usually tend to be similar (in terms of chances) compared to R3/ R4, particularly for international applicants. Echoing the above comment, it's better to submit a stronger application in R2 than a rushed-up one in R1.
