I got an e-mail today that Owen would call me tomorrow to update me on the status of my application. I'm assuming this is a good sign, but does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Thanks.

^ I was thinking it might be a reminder for the weekend event but then the email also mentions that if none of the times tomorrow work, we can try for next week. So I'm not sure...

So I'll be seeing you at discover?

In my personal opinion, Owen isn't going to call you to dump you. They've been in the industry to long to do something like that.

I'm guessing it's more of a "we haven't forgotten about you and we're really close to making a decision so be patient" call. I'm definitely intrigued though.

I really wanted to make it out there this weekend (especially since I've never been to Nashville and Owen is pretty high on my list), but by the time I found out about it, flights from Cali were pretty pricey. Since we're still kinda early in the round 2 interview process, I figure I should try to conserve money in case I have to make a few trips to the east coast.

Have you decided yet or just checking out discover to see if it sways you?

I'm really hoping it's a scholarship thing, obviously. I read one story on the Mendoza thread about the admissions director calling a waitlisted person to encourage them because they were right on the bubble, but I can't imagine they'd call three weeks before their deadline to do that. RG I see you've gotten into Kenan-Flagler, so that's comforting since Owen and Kenan Flagler are ranked similarly.

In my experience Owen is really dedicated to matching the personality of the potential students with the culture of the school.

Re: Vanderbilt Owen 2012 - Calling All Applicants [#permalink]
I'll be at Discover Weekend. Actually, I'll be at the intro event starting tonight.

I interviewed yesterday with John Roeder (pronounce "Raider"), the Director of Admissions. The interview was very casual. He is very good at his job and will make you feel good about the interview so it is difficult to tell if you have made the cut in the interview. I did find out something a little surprising at the end of the interview. Replying to a question I asked, John told me that they conduct "blind interviews". He said that he only saw my resume and had not reviewed the admissions packet or essays! This is so that all candidates can be evaluated fairly and so that he can listen to the interview with a fresh perspective instead of being biased by an essay. I entered the interview with the intent of answering questions to help strengthen or clarify my essays and resume. I may have positioned myself a little differently if I had known that he did not review the packet except for the resume.

However, the student that I was paired up with was stellar. We have a lot in common and the experience was great. In addition, the student guides are evaluating you as well. They are provided a worksheet to complete about you that they return to the admin dept. after you leave. Be friendly, but cautious about what you say.

I am very excited about this program and look forward to hearing the response from the school.
