I'll be at Discover Weekend. Actually, I'll be at the intro event starting tonight.
I interviewed yesterday with John Roeder (pronounce "Raider"), the Director of Admissions. The interview was very casual. He is very good at his job and will make you feel good about the interview so it is difficult to tell if you have made the cut in the interview. I did find out something a little surprising at the end of the interview. Replying to a question I asked, John told me that they conduct "blind interviews". He said that he only saw my resume and had not reviewed the admissions packet or essays! This is so that all candidates can be evaluated fairly and so that he can listen to the interview with a fresh perspective instead of being biased by an essay. I entered the interview with the intent of answering questions to help strengthen or clarify my essays and resume. I may have positioned myself a little differently if I had known that he did not review the packet except for the resume.
However, the student that I was paired up with was stellar. We have a lot in common and the experience was great. In addition, the student guides are evaluating you as well. They are provided a worksheet to complete about you that they return to the admin dept. after you leave. Be friendly, but cautious about what you say.
I am very excited about this program and look forward to hearing the response from the school.
